CABARET
About The Show
Miss Saigon star Carolyn Maitland and Lucas Rush, both currently starring in the West End, are to play the lead roles of Sally Bowles and the Emcee in a stunning new production of the Tony Award-winning musical “Cabaret”, created in Aberdeen.

They will head a principal cast of professional actors straight from the West End, alongside a wealth of local talent in a provocative and edgy new production opening at Arts Centre and Theatre (ACT), Aberdeen to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January 2016.

The classic Broadway musical, based on the novel Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, is set in the seedy nightlife of the Kit Kat Klub on the eve of Hitler’s rise to power in Germany. It made a star out of Liza Minnelli when it premiered in 1966.
Cabaret follows the interlocking stories of a cabaret singer, a writer from America, and the denizens of Berlin as they are caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society.
Aberdonian Director Derek Anderson’s new production will transform the venue into the infamous nightclub, complete with cabaret-style tables and chairs to create a truly unique and immersive theatrical experience.
Anderson said: “I am thrilled that we can create this striking production of Cabaret in Aberdeen. With an outstanding cast of professional ac- tors combined with local performers and by completely transforming the theatre into the intimate nightclub setting, the audience will be thrust straight into the dangerous and decadent world of 1930’s Berlin. Cabaret is going to be a truly unforgettable theatrical event.”

Written by the same team that brought Chicago to the stage, Cabaret features well-known classics of the musical stage such as “Don’t Tell Mama,” “Maybe This Time,” as well as the title song.
